Dancing lines

Was inspired this evening by seeing David Koloane on TV, a seasoned artist trying something new. Known for his charcoal and pastel drawings of city and township scenes, the artist was challenged to produce digital drawings on a computer, using recorded sounds of the city for inspiration. The result is a video drawing in which Koloane's lines, true to his original style, dance around on the screen, to music and city sounds. (SABC, Right Through the Arts). Koloane is one of the first artists to kindly agree to be interviewed for My (Art) Burg.

Johannesburg 2010 project off to a great start

My (Art) Burg is off to a great start! Some of Johannesburg's most prolific and well-known artists have graciously agreed to participate in this audiovisual project about the city. And I have already interviewed, and photographed, Achmat Dangor, David Goldblatt, David Koloane and Antoinette Murdoch, in the Johannesburg locations of their choice. I feel so privileged to be able to record their stories, and have plans to share this material with other Joburg fans, in the form of an audiovisual exhibition, and hopefully also a book. I look forward to additional interviews with many other special Joburgers.
